Welcome to LodgingGuide's hospitality industry listings for the San Jose, California - Silicon Valley area.
The relatively new computer industry funded originally by Stanford University in Palo Alto shortly after World War II, a short train ride south of San Francisco, has spread south and east into what used to be called the Valley of Heart's Delight, an area famous for its fruit orchards. Many of these orchards are gone now, replaced by computer manufacturers and auxiliary companies, and the area of bedroom suburb communities clustered around San Jose, the new commercial center of the computer industry, has been renamed Silicon Valley. Not only is the area unique in its heavy concentration of intellectual energy, which attracts some of the more stimulating cultural events in the country, but it has remained an excellent natural environment for growing some of the finest grapes in California. The proximity to the Bay Area with its excellent public transportation system makes San Jose and Silicon Valley a perfect home base from which to explore all that this area has to offer in cultural as well as gustatory
stimulation. Most recently, due in part to the burst dot com bubble, Silicon Valley has begun another shift of identity to a possible new Internet Valley. When this happens, perhaps the fruit orchards will be able to return.
